empowering communities

For Bajaj Foundation, strengthening farming communities sits at the heart of its mission. Nowhere is this more visible than at Wardha, the hallowed grounds made famous by Mahatma Gandhi.

A strong and empowered farming community is indispensable to our nation’s sustainable development agenda. In Maharashtra’s Wardha district, the Foundation with the help of local farming communities has worked tirelessly to revive the river systems and address the challenge of water availability.

Education and training, technological enablement, and an ecosystem filled with opportunities are key to social mobility.

Bajaj Foundation’s work in villages across Wardha (Maharashtra), Sikar (Rajasthan) and Lalitpur (Uttar Pradesh) has brought about a sea change in the lives of thousands of ordinary villagers. Through sustainable agricultural practices, innovative use of technology and continued support we’re transforming lives every day.

In villages across India, close to 76% of the total available groundwater is used for agricultural practices. With no mechanisms, other than the seasonal rains for replenishing this water, agricultural activities leave water tables across India drier every passing season.

In a bid to combat the challenge of depleting water tables and water scarcity, Bajaj Foundation has been working to develop water resources in areas where the problem is particularly acute. Based on participatory approaches its water resource management interventions are giving hope to thousands.
